Yes, they still do exist
Ok, this one had me real curious. With the closing of Hollywood Video and video stores in general, extinct; 48 Hrs. Video still exists. Even though I did not have a chance to speak with the owner this time, I wanted to do a short article.
I fully admit, I live in the digital age. If it does not fit on my laptop / phone, it takes up too much space. I think the dvd in my laptop has been used under 10 times. These were for reviewing cd's. To see a video store still in business is highly unusual. The Blockbuster across the street closed over 1 year ago.
Stopping by, I walked around. Rows of DVD and Blu-Ray movies line this store. Everything from new releases to old classics. A large section of TV shows / series is on the back wall. Yes, there is an adult section here. No, I did not check it out.
Nothing impressive with the selection, just what you would expect.
What impressed me was when I talked with the gentleman behind the counter. The video store has been open for 20 years. The fact that you can still walk into a place and browse a large selection of movies is very rare. Open late on most nights gives you a great idea, especially heading into cold weather.
Walking into a video store that outlasted the major corporations was like going back in time. People talk about the history of the Lehigh Valley and what used to be here. On Union Blvd., near Bethlehem, is a living part of Lehigh Valley History. Want to check out a movie one night? Maybe on the way back from a nice dinner. Stop by and check out their selection.
