A Valley and Beyond

Very welcome change of pace...

It has been a very long time since I reviewed recorded music. Several months ago, I attended an open mic and  Gabriela Lo Basso was performing. Honestly, I never heard of her before that point. I was very impressed with her new and original sound. After having a chance to compliment her, was given the CD to review. It was almost forgotten until recently. Finding the CD, knew it was time to listen and review. Very glad I did!

I pretty much abandoned the local music scene due to amount of cover bands. Plus, pretty much "seen it all / done it all". Normally, I only review digital due to physical copies taking up space. This review is done while listening to the CD.

Right off, her sound and lyrics caught my attention. Track 1, In My Mind, really caught me off guard with the almost pure techno / electronic sound.

Track 6, Into the Night, is my favorite! A combination of slow / fast / almost unpredictable pace and lyrics makes this one almost an instant hit! It sounds like Ms. Lo Basso is really performing this one from her life and memories. Bonus: a slight Celtic feel at brief moments.

Human Connection is my second favorite. The upbeat music and lyrics almost force you into a great mood. It is not your teenage, bubble gum, style. This is more evolved and refined. The electronic style music was well thought out and not just random beats and sounds.

Overall rating: Definitely check out Gabriela Lo Basso!

She is a perfect example of the new and fresh sound / lyrics the entire music scene, especially Lehigh Valley, desperately needs. From this CD, it appears she is not afraid to take chances and push limits. Both in music and lyric combinations. Animalistic was full of well appreciated surprises. If you are tired of the same sounds or hardcore metal that takes a true fan to appreciate, Gabriela Lo Basso is definitely the artist for you. Make sure she is on top of your Independent list!!!!!
