Note: Due to the crowd, I could not any good photos.
Right off, the technical problems were just too much to overcome. No matter what the band did, the music drowned out lyrics on almost every song.
There were several high points in the show. Music included: A harder, rocking version of Beat It and Tell me Why. In addition to covers, the band had originals mixed in.
Crowd interaction was another very high point. Donovan (lead singer / keyboards) took over here. Having conversations and joking around on the hard breaks. At times, he just went nuts on stage, seriously.
Maybe I picked the wrong night to review a band. Back to the Action made a serious mistake with me: drinking on stage. I will give a band 2 times during a set for crowd interaction. It was at a point where I left early, halfway through the second set. I could tell the alcohol was starting to take over. Especially with lead singer, Donovan. I have to admit, some people loved it.
I can understand if a band is celebrating or had a hard week. Just keep it off the stage. This is the main reason I dropped the review from “full” to “quick mention”.
Overall, it was not bad. The first set rocked! How I see Back to the Action: a straight up / in your face / metal, punk band.
As with every band, I always give a second review. It will be a few months apart and in a different venue.
Music and crowd interaction was very good. I would suggest checking them out:
