Not what you may think...
This was my second time at Big Woody's. The first was for their second anniversary bash. They have 5 locations in the Lehigh Valley. The one on Easton Ave., in Bethlehem has been my only stop. I have been to a lot of festivals this year. This one really caught my attention. No, it was not for the beer and wine tasting.
The reason? Most festivals are about eating / drinking / music. Big Woody's Octoberfest will have all that in the next 3 days. I went because this Octoberfest is about the community and helping people out. For example, tonight they did have a wine and beer tasting. Tomorrow night, you can come out and meet members of the Bethlehem Township Fire Dept. Say thank you to some of our unsung heroes who lay their lives on the line to keep us safe. Of course, there will be food and beverage specials.
Continuing with the community part. Saturday is one of the two days you will definitely want to bring the family! Local vendors and things going on for adults and the kids. Sunday, they have a benefit volleyball tournament happening for The Center for Animal Health and Welfare. Pretty much what the entire event is about. This part is why Octoberfest is in the top of my list. Like I said, it's about more than food, beverage and live music. You do not always see a sports bar doing something like this.
I had a chance to speak with Sherry Moore (manager) and had just one question: Why? Sherry: Why not? We try to help the community and give something back.
Overall recommendation: If you are in the area, place this towards the top of your list of stops. If tonight was any preview, the next 3 days will be definitely be fun and worth your time!
Yes, I did try samples of 3 beers.
Here are some photos from tonight to give you an idea...

I have to mention this part. No matter when you stop in Big Woody's, the staff is working hard and busting their asses. Both times, I noticed the bartenders / servers / managers. No one was standing around for more than a few moments. Managers are always helping out the staff. Some examples: making sure the bar is stocked and gladly assisting with customers. Depending on how crowded it is, it may take a few moments to have your order taken. Everyone gives the customers the highest priority!
