beauty between two cities
In the Lehigh Valley, Easton is the last stop before New Jersey. Separating Easton and Phillipsburg, NJ is the Delaware River. I have been here several times in the past 2 years. I really did not take time to enjoy the beauty here. Having some time to kill, I decided to walk around and take some photos / video.
In about 45 minutes, I realize why this part of Easton / Lehigh Valley is one of my favorites!
Larry Holmes Drive is the st. that runs along this section of the Delaware. Around the area of the Free Bridge / Northampton St. there is part of a trail. You will also a small playground / plaques describing local history / an amphitheater where live music happens in nice weather. I have been to the the amphitheater only one time. Easton's Heritage day was the occasion. Remember learning about where the Greeks had plays in ancient history? Picture a much smaller version.
Take one of the lower trails or steps and you get to a small beach and boat launch. Again, when weather permits, several festivals / concerts / events are held here. I just discovered the small beach on this visit. What can I say, usually in Easton for other reasons: writing articles / events / etc. During the summer, I noticed people fishing, sunbathing, and tubing. There is a Shad Fishing Tournament in the spring.
So far, I have not told you why this area is one of my favorite parts of the Lehigh Valley. You may have figured it out by now. A Valley and Beyond keeps me very busy. I love every second of it! I rarely take time to just enjoy life. Being a 100% city person, I do love visiting nature. In Easton, you get the best of both worlds. Taking a break from life, I found it easy to forget I was in a city. Going down to the small beach, it only took a few minutes for me to almost completely escape life.
The river's sounds, up close, can be almost hypnotic. Drowning out the sounds of cars and everything else. Even though when I looked around, buildings from the Phillipsburg side were easily visible. It almost looked like a postcard.
After a quick life escape, I walked back up Northampton St. to the city life I love so much!
Last year, was my first visits to Easton. Looking at the Delaware and bridge, I had to remind myself one thing. Cross the bridge and visit another state. That is for a different article.
As with everything I write: hopefully, you feel like you are actually here.
