Two Rivers Roller Derby Art Show / Pinos Union Station Pizzeria and Restaurant
OK, when I saw this one on Facebook, I could not resist. Here in the Lehigh Valley, art can be found in some unusual places. I have been to some very unique art shows here. This one is in the top 5!
After stopping by the new exhibit opening at Suddenly Samantha / Easton, walked across the bridge into New Jersey. After living in the Lehigh Valley for over 4 years, still feels weird. Hanging a right, a few blocks up the road is Pino's. I have attended an art exhibit at Pino's in the past. Last year, a benefit Two Rivers hosted was my first experience with Roller Derby. Like I said, could not resist!
When I arrived, it was packed! Made a few intros. and tried to move around and check out some art. In other words, get to work. I have been paying attention to Two Rivers for the past year. The main aspect I noticed was the amount they do for the community. And the way they find unique ways of doing things off the track. The art show is one example; another was a speed dating event earlier this year. It takes more than just the core of what an organization does to attract my attention.
The coolest part of this exhibit was a fan favorite was chosen. Walking in, you were handed a paper to fill out your favorite artist and piece of art. They really wanted people to be a part of this event vs. just being there. I also had a chance to speak with some of the ladies who go out on the track. Everyone at Two Rivers Roller Derby is very friendly and welcoming! This is a top notch organization who seriously cares about the community. Asking why they did so much for local organizations: The community is why they have a team. The organization wants to give back and show how much they appreciate it.
BTW: curious about the food at Pino's? I tried some pizza / chicken / garlic bread. Definitely worth the trip to Phillipsburg! Pino's has some of THE best food in the entire Lehigh Valley!!!!! Trust me, I love pizza. Their pizza and sauce had a unique flavor that was not bland or too spicy. The garlic bread was perfectly flavored. Chicken? Easily tell it was fresh with a crispy coating and tender center.
