Not just for kids....
I have used Lego Digital Designer several times in the past 8 years. Yes, Legos on the computer! Ok, I admit to this being the only part of my childhood I still love. Legos are great for anyone who is creative, no matter what your age.
When you start the program, there are 3 modes for choices: Digital Designer / Mindstorms / Digital Designer Extended. If you want to design robots, Mindstorms is the one to start with. I highly suggest Digital Designer Extended for anything else. The main difference between Designer and Extended? Designer, you are given all the bricks in all available colors. This can take a lot of time when you are designing. Extended, you are given the bricks in one color and can change colors later. Trust me, a huge time saver.
Like I said, the interface is easy to learn: Brick choices, a top menu including: Edit / Toolbox / View, Build / View / Building Guide Modes. I did not have to use the help feature at any time.
One nice part: looking for something like a window? Use the search feature at the top of the brick menu. The amount of available bricks makes it very easy to come up with endless creations!
After you finish your project, the Building Guide mode will take you through it, step by step. There is an option to export and print the building directions. In case you wanted to bring it to life. As an added bonus, create an account on Lego's website / upload / purchase the custom set! Or you could just purchase the individual bricks / buckets.
For anyone who is creative / adults who still have the kid inside / children who love Legos: My highest recommendation! You will have a lot of fun with Digital Designer. Main suggestion: Let your imagination run wild!
