With the July 4 weekend behind us. There is no stopping what is going on in the Lehigh Valley, Pa area. The next major, multi-day event is coming up next week. It's not Musikfest, not yet. In case you don't know what Musikfest is, Google / Bing it. This one is about sports. More like the Lehigh Valley's version of the Olympics.
First off, Sportsfest does not have only one or two venues. Good luck trying to attend every event. It is all over the Valley, literally. Ok, mainly Allentown / Bethlehem area. Cedar Beach in Allentown is the main venue with Sportsfest's headquarters located there.
The Olympics part? Pick a sport, seriously. Everything from what you would expect like Basketball, Hockey (Bethlehem), Baseball and Tennis. What you would not expect: Horseshoes, Disc Golf, Ultimate Frisbee and Dodgeball (not the movie) to name a few.
Why would you want to attend even a few events? Not a sports fan? Last year, I stopped by for a few hours. There is something for everyone here. Each sport and event is played by amateur athletes. You never know, someone competing here could be the next professional sports star. Even if you are not a sports fan, bring the kids! You will still have a great time watching a few. This is going to be a great way to spend part of a summer weekend.
There is one drawback here. Several of the venues and competitions rely on good weather. Nature is also going to be one of the judges. Considering several venues / competitions are outdoors, rain / thunderstorms may raise everything to the professional level.
Recommendation: If you live / planning to be in the Lehigh Valley, Pa area that weekend. Stop by one or more of the Sportsfest venues. Even if you don't know anyone competing, cheer them on! It does help and shows your appreciation for these athletes.
Sportsfest is a completely free event. Speaking from personal experience here.
Do I have your interest yet? Hopefully! Check out the website for schedule and venues. If you can, say a prayer to mother nature for great weather. :)
