2 sides to this one

I noticed this band by accident, seriously. I do remember seeing them at WZZO's Battle of the Backyard Bands. It was Bethlehem's Harvestfest that I paid attention. Backyard Bands, they did the full rock show. Harvestfest was an acoustic show.
After hearing both sides, I was interested in the band and CD. As usual, I am reviewing it while listening.
The 8 track release starts off with "Alive". Pretty much a standard rock song: good lyrics and music. "Alive" did get my interest to the point of wanting to hear more. After 2 rock tracks, #3 "Again" really caught my attention. I found myself really getting into it. "Again" slows it down and has a feel of an 80's power ballad. "Breathe" is another song I found myself really getting absorbed in the lyrics and music. Track 7, "Middleground " will really catch you off guard halfway through the song. This one is seriously different. Last song? I was moving to it from the first song.
Overall Review:
At points, I did tune it into background music. Every time I did, the next song would get me back into it. The release appears to be a combination of more commercial songs mixed with ones written from experience and life. The lyrics: Tracks like "Driven" and "Middleground" have a more commercial sound to them. While "Breathe" and "Again" have the personal experience edge.
If you are into rock music, The Beautiful Distortion, is worth a listen or going to one of their shows. At no point during this cd did I feel I was wasting time listening to it. Yes, there were a few "background music" moments. Like I said, the combination of rock / ballad and fast / slow brought me back.
Even though I like their rock / electric side, the acoustic is what really has my curiosity going...
