I originally planned this as a video review. Great idea, except for not being able to do it while listening to the music!
The first thing that really grabbed my attention: Title and all black. What grabbed my curiosity? Again, the title and track titles. This one left it wide open.
Track 1 (Left in Flames), gets the blood flowing and body moving. A serious rock intro with guitars hard. Honestly, I was thrown back to the hard rock of the 80's with this one.
Here is something I really love in both live and recorded music: songs mixed together. You can't tell when "Left in Flames" ends and "Voices" (track 2) starts. Until you hear the female lead and the guitars drop off... Great way to mix and change pace during the song.
Time for the break and serious change of pace. While "Left in Flames" and "Voices" had a hard, more commercial sound to them; the band really grabs you with Track 3 (Pain). The serious change of pace? "Pain" in both lyrics and music sticks to the title. It is a slower, more rock ballad style and feel.
The band finds a great balance in both music and lyric combination on Track 4 (The Years). Starting off hard and fast, with a sudden break keeps your attention and prevents the "Zone Out" factor. "The Years" starts bringing things back up. They do this at a steady pace vs. the first half of the album.
Definition: "Zone Out" factor: the music becomes background vs. paying full attention to it.
Sorry, not going into the last tracks. Why? I have to leave you in a little suspense!!!!!

Overall...
Rating: Definitely add this one to your digital / physical collection!!!! It is a serious keeper.
I can not even recommend only or two songs. While part of "Voices" has a more commercial feel / sound to it, the rest has a more personal side.
The change of pace in music and lyrics will keep your attention focused on the songs and not just background noise. Like most music, you may find yourself relating to some of the lyrics and songs. Especially if you love the Rock genre, you will be moving to this one.
What impressed me the most? Mixing "Left in Flames" with "Voices". I did not realize they were different songs until the instrument and vocal focus changed.
Is The Beautiful Distortion's "Voices" Cd added to my collection? Not even a second thought: YES!!!!
Even though I love the entire Cd, there is one track that is my favorite: "The Years". I can't really nail down why, but, I am listening to it for the the 3rd time while finishing this review.
Important Note: Every review is a personal opinion. I don't care who does it. Every review I do is just that and to be used as a guide only. I expect you to agree or disagree with me.
Thanks for checking out the review of "Voices" by The Beautiful Distortion. Your feedback is always welcome.
